Today is my husband's birthday. When we first started dating I quickly realized that Mike is really good at living life. He's is good at a lot of things but that, in my opinion, is something really special that can't be measured.
One of the things I am excited about when I think of having kids some day is showing them all of the exciting things in life. I'll be there the first time they try ice cream, see an elephant, and light a sparkler. There are so many magical events in childhood that as you get older and caught up in personal relationships, routine and finding a bit of comfort you forget that you haven't come close to seeing all of the individual beauties in the world. There's no more parent ushering you around saying, "you gotta try this," but that doesn't mean you're done!
Mike always knows what's going on and that's because he's always looking for the next new and exciting thing to see or try. He doesn't know if it will taste good or if it will be what's expected or if it will even be something you'd want to do again but he tries it anyway. If all goes wrong it's at the very least a good story. And not only does he know that it is good to go and see and do but he knows that sometimes, it's best to stay and relax and do sweet nothing.
So today I am celebrating the 29th year of a life lived exceptionally well. And, I am also celebrating my own joy of being able to share in the many years to come! HAPPY BIRTHDAY, MIKE!
