The other night, I went and spent the evening with some girlfriends and watched "The Secret." It's a terribly made movie with a positive message. It's basically a self-help movie posing as a documentary. Although the presentation was quite flawed I'm happy to have seen it. I'm a bit more skeptical of overly positive messages these days but I'm generally a positive person so I can still get a lot out of them.
They call it the Power of Attraction. The energy of your thoughts and emotions have the power to change your world and attract what you're thinking about to you. If you think negative thoughts (even "I hope I don't get sick") negative comes to you; if you think and feel positive, that's what shows up. Ask and you shall receive. It may take days, months or years, but so long as the thoughts are being sent out, the wheels are in motion. They suggest making a list of the things you want, or doing drawings or posting pictures on the wall to remind you. If you don't know what you want, they suggest just being grateful for what you have and to think about that. More of those types of things will come to you.
A lot of what the movie was saying was familiar to me but there was one nugget that I hadn't thought of before: There is enough for everyone. The Universe is abundant and can give everyone what they need and want. You're not taking from someone else by getting the things that you want. Which makes sense to me- The Universe is capable of providing for all. Now, the movie says if everyone individually harnessed the power of their thoughts they would be taken care of. I don't know about all that but I'm still testing out their theories- thinking positively, imagining I can have whatever I want and that it's on the way. It's kinda fun.
Anyhow- if you're into this kinda thing, the movie is worth watching- just know that it's too long, uses the same stock footage shots multiple times and is a bit cheesy.
